Fourteen years of working passionately, aiming to perfect our craft as multidisciplinary designers. Not a year passes without deep contemplation and gratitude for how far we’ve come—this includes our 2024 run in Indonesia, India, and the Maldives, to bring culture, art, and nature abroad. It is a big vision, indeed, but we love to start small and think bigger—pushing to take our steps further and beyond.
We have expanded our horizons as months and years have passed by, each bringing different challenges. We learn from mistakes without regret; we just keep pushing forward and set no boundaries—only targets.
The year 2025 is also welcoming many new talents to SHL Asia, who seek to learn and put their skills to the test in delivering ‘A’ grade service to our clients. This goal is not without a formula—we have formulated our own approach, which we call the ‘Design Manifesto.’
Our manifesto dictates our way of seeing good design. It must bring the elements of timelessness, diversity, and sustainability. The formula of good design, for us, can be summarized as follows:
Sustainability – A design should add sustained value in terms of economy, culture, and the environment for the client.
Dream – We see design as a journey about our client, witnessing their dream realized beyond their expectations.
Desa Kala Patra – To acknowledge the uniqueness of each project within the frame of its PLACE (Desa), TIME (Kala), and SITUATION (Patra), drawn from Balinese philosophy.
Storytelling – To always start with imagination, intertwined with comprehensive meaning and story.
Our design mindset will always reflect this manifesto, reminding us of our roots and our role in society and the environment. The grip tightens on our ship, and the sail is set. To our readers and clients who are anticipating our journey, we proudly announce to you…

The organizational changes also extend to our Founder, Mr. Jung Yat. In pursuit of advancing SHL Asia’s business development and in anticipation of upcoming global challenges, Mr. Jung Yat will now assume the role of Director of Business Development. In this capacity, he will be responsible for identifying growth opportunities, building strategic partnerships, and driving market expansion. SHL ASIA ACADEMY
Talents must be nurtured. At SHL Asia, we see our practice not merely as a business enterprise, but as an opportunity to contribute to the development of the next generation of architects, designers, and leaders. Through SHL Asia Academy, we bring together young individuals and provide them with the chance to experience the professional realm, receiving close guidance from practicing architects and designers.
Participants are taken beyond the textbook to gain a deeper understanding of the dynamics of the work environment, ensuring that when they begin their careers, they are equipped with the necessary tools and mindset.
The SHL Asia Academy is led by Mr. Jung Yat, serving as Director. His passion for personal growth and self-improvement drives his commitment to developing SHL Asia as a thriving hub for nurturing talent.
TRILOGY OF OUR BOOK
Within this year, we are also looking ahead to the birth of our second Timeless Harmony book series! After the first series was published in 2021 with the theme of Desa Kala Patra, our second book carries a new theme centered on the storytelling tradition called Tutur lan Satua. The book will showcase how narration can be translated into design and also inspire our clients to experience a new dimension of space.

The publication of this book aligns with our vision to highlight our role as a hospitality design firm with an emphasis on Culture, Art, and Nature for every one of our works. We believe this approach is the start to achieving timeless and harmonious design.
The Timeless Harmony Series is published in chronological order, with each book bringing a different central theme. Since its inception in 2021, we have envisioned the series in the following way:
The first series, themed Desa Kala Patra, introduced our traditions in Culture.
The second series, themed Tutur lan Satua, brings forward Art through storytelling inspiration.
The next book in our third series will center on Nature, listening to our environment, and exploring how our work can be in harmony with it.
As we step into 2025, we’re excited for what’s next and all the new opportunities that lie ahead. With every project, we continue to grow, learn, and we’re grateful to have our clients and partners with us as part of this adventure. We can’t wait to see where it takes us next.
So, let’s welcome this new year with our newly cherished spirit motto:
Achieve More and Repeat!
Stay tuned—there’s so much more to come!
